2018 Mustang EcoBoost Gets Competitive on the Drag Strip with Standard Electronic Line-Lock

Ford has just made a decision with the upcoming 2018 Mustang that some might call irresponsible, and some might call awesome—a.k.a. the best kind of decision. They've made electronic line-lock a standard feature on all models, including the Mustang EcoBoost.

Electronic line-lock is a feature seen mainly in cars owned by professional drag racers. It takes all the muss and fuss out of smoking the tires, which is useful if you've got a race to win and don't have time to mess around with your handbrake. What it means now that it's in the hands of anyone who buys a new 2018 Mustang is... well, probably a lot of bald tires and peeved neighbors.

The new tech may just encourage casual buyers to finally get out to the track to test out their new moves—which they should, because doing a burnout is fun. According to Ford, it should prove particularly useful to amateur drivers competing in bracket races.
